Vermont, Burlington, Farmers and Mechanics Bank, $2, Nov 3, 1836, VT-55-unlisted altered note, serial #1000, payment clause reads "Pay TWO dollars on demand to A Fellows or bearer" and "for The Mechanics Exchange Company, New York" has been removed (altered) to make the note appear to be an issue of the Farmers and Mechanics Bank of Burlington, VT, it's actually a piece of scrip issued by the Mechanics Exchange Co of NY City payable at the Vermont bank, unlisted in Haxby, from the collection of the Western Reserve Historical Society sold by Spink in 1996, a few small edge nibbles, very good.   $125   photo
