(From Sacramento Daily Union, Feb 12, 1869) "We came near having a destructive fire at Fort Jones last week. The dwelling of A.B. CARLOCK, situated in the lower part of the town, caught fire from a defective flue. The Fort Jones fire department were out in full force, it being the first run since purchasing their fire apparatus. About fifty men were at the fire, but all had forgotten to bring buckets, hooks, ladders or anything else to aid in putting our the fire." Carlock was postmaster at Fort Jones from 1862 to at least the 1880s. He is listed in the 1885 Siskiyou County directory as "Carlock, Adam B. - banker, agent Wells, Fargo & Co., Western Union Tel Co., Postmaster". He later became President of Siskiyou Telephone Co. when it was incorporated in 1896.
